This is a great re-introduction to Death as a character; he's not the angry, eager-to-reap stalker of The Color of Magic. He's trying to understand humans, and as usual, humans are human and unpredictably predictable. This is not my favorite Death book, but it is still pretty funny with many great moments.
There is some part of this which is slightly uncomfortable in the current year with Epstein and sex offender president. While the book largely involves people of about the same physical age (Mort Ysabell, and Keli are all about 16, though Ysabell has been in Death's realm for 35 years), the wizard Cutwell is 20, and his thoughts about Keli could cost him his magic. It doesn't come across to me as predatory, but I think a more modern book would have had Cutwell a little younger.
